In response to the lack of comfort of the Wrangler, engineers introduced a new Quadra-Coil suspension to TJ, which replaced the honest leaf spring suspension and improved the comfort of the vehicle. At the same time, the new suspension system makes the ground clearance of the vehicle higher, the corresponding approach angle and departure angle increase, and the off-road performance is also enhanced.

In 2003, Jeep launched a model with complete equipment and powerful off-road performance – Rubicon. This name is not ordinary, it is taken from a legendary off-road section, which is from the famous Rubicon Trail (Robin Hood’s Road) in the United States. This model is specially created for the majority of off-road enthusiasts. The front and rear axles are Dana 44 axles, and it is equipped with a key-locking differential, a Rock-Trac transfer case with a transmission ratio of 4:1, and a rear wheel Disc brakes, underbody guards, and a plethora of options never seen before on a Jeep model.

In 2004 and 2005, Jeep also successively launched the Unlimited version and the Rubicon Unlimited version, which extended the wheelbase by 250 mm on the basis of the TJ. The car is equipped with a 4.0L inline 6-cylinder engine, automatic transmission and Command-Trac four-wheel drive system. The off-road capabilities of Rubicon Unlimited are on par with the Rubicon version.
