Since 2006, Mazda’s BT-50 pickup has been twinned with the Ford Ranger in Thailand. When Mazda and Ford broke up, the Mazda BT-50 became the only remaining fruit of the marriage between Mazda and Ford. Now, with the advent of the Mazda BT-50 replacement life cycle, the new generation of Mazda BT-50 has also become the last new model before Mazda retreats to practice new cars.
A few days ago, Mazda officially released the preview of the new BT-50. According to the plan, the new car will be officially unveiled in Thailand on June 17.
Like the previous generation model, the new Mazda BT-50 is not a product independently developed by Mazda-after all, Mazda has not been involved in the development of this field for a long time in the past two decades. The new Mazda BT-50 will share technology with the new generation of Isuzu D-MAX. In July 2016, Mazda and Isuzu reached a cooperation agreement. The two parties will cooperate in the field of pickup trucks in the form of OEM. The new-generation Mazda BT-50 will also be put into production at the Rayong factory in Thailand together with the new-generation Isuzu D-MAX.
Judging from the released preview images, the new Mazda BT-50 and Isuzu D-MAX maintain the same body, the difference between the two will only focus on the changes in exterior details. Mazda’s BT-50 should be sportier than Isuzu’s D-MAX.
In terms of power, the new Mazda BT-50 will be equipped with RZ4E and 4JJ3 diesel power, the former has a maximum output of 150 horsepower and a maximum torque of 350 Nm, the latter has a maximum output of 190 horsepower and a maximum torque of 450 Nm——and The Isuzu D-MAX stays consistent. It is mated to a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission.
Judging from the information of Isuzu D-MAX, compared with the previous generation model, the new generation product has improved the suspension and steering system, which improves the dynamic texture of the vehicle.
