On February 28, 2020, the birth of Ducati Superleggera V4 turned dreams into reality. Dreams and passions finally push the limits of engineering, mechanical design, and detail creation. The project represents the pinnacle of Ducati’s expertise in industrial manufacturing, aesthetic design and extreme performance.
The Superleggera V4 is the most powerful, most advanced, most technological, most extreme and most precious superbike Ducati has ever built. This car is limited to 500 units, and each car has a special exclusive number.
Superleggera V4 is the only Superleggera motorcycle in the world that has complete load-bearing capacity and is made of composite materials such as carbon fiber and titanium alloy, including: frame, subframe, rear rocker arm and wheels, etc., and can be legally registered on the road . In order to ensure the highest quality and safety standards, all components of the vehicle use the most advanced scientific research technology in the aerospace industry, such as thermal imaging technology, ultrasonic inspection and tomography. Optimize frame size for extreme track riding with extended swingarm. The overall result is unrivaled stability and braking ability, with more lean and sharper lines in corners.
The overall vehicle has reached a very high level of performance: Ducati official test driver Alessandro Valia drove the Superleggera V4 to run an amazing lap time of 1:52:45 at the Mugello circuit, which is faster than the 2019 Italian MotoGP champion Michele Pirro The Panigale V4 R WSBK lap time was two seconds faster.
Many parts of the vehicle are made from carbon fiber, including molded advanced aerodynamic components. The aerodynamic wing design derived from the 2016 Ducati motogp chariot pushes aerodynamics to the peak. It is guaranteed that the vehicle can generate 50kg of downforce at a speed of 270 kph, which is 20kg more than that generated by the Panigale V4 and V4 R. This downforce improves acceleration by counteracting the tendency of the wheels to yaw and increases braking stability.
The carbon fiber fairing also features a striking Desmosedici GP19-inspired design, juxtaposing Ducati red with exposed carbon, emphasizing shapes, materials and technical details.
Beneath the carbon fiber fairing sits the Desmosedici Stradale R engine, lighter and more powerful than ever before. In fact, the 998 cm3 90° V4 that powers the Superleggera V4 weighs 2.8 kg less than the 1,103 cm3 V4. And the fitment of the certified titanium Akrapovič exhaust also maximizes performance. The use of a dry clutch in conjunction with Desmodromic’s individually adjustable valves pushes the engine’s track performance to the limit.
The “RaceGP” display for racing engine calibration is only fitted on the Superleggera V4. Designed for track use, with valuable input from Andrea Dovizioso, it is a direct drop use of the Desmosedici GP20 meter.
Due to the extensive use of carbon fiber, titanium and magnesium materials and other components machined from solid aluminum, the Superleggera V4 has a dry weight of only 152.2 kg and a power of 234 hp after the race kit is assembled, so the power-to-weight ratio is also achieved. An astounding 1.54 hp/kg. Track performance is also enhanced by a redeveloped electronic control system, whose operating parameters are linked by default to three reprogrammed riding modes (Race A, Race B and sport).
Plus, for the first time, five additional riding modes can be personalized to the owner’s individual riding style. Drivers can also monitor lap times with an upgraded lap timer that records the finish line and split time coordinates of five famous circuits. These can be called up at the start of each track day without having to repeat the setup process. The default system setup has finish line/time interval details for the following circuits: Laguna Seca, Mugello, Jerez, Sepang and Losail ( Losail), other customizable settings.
Other standard items include a lightweight Öhlins suspension system, pressurized Öhlins NPX25/30 upside-down 43mm forks, and an Öhlins TTX36 rear shock. Downforce-increasing forks and lightweight machined aluminum fork soles exemplify extreme performance. Titanium rear shock springs and equipped with MOTOGP racing rear shock valving system, these shock valves improve the damping of road bumps during the initial compression phase.
The braking system is the most high-end equipment in the Brembo product line. The Superleggera V4 custom Monobloc Stylema® R calipers are equipped with MCS radial front pumps with remote adjusters. This braking system can provide maximum braking travel on long distances consistency.
The radiator cap made of solid aluminium, as well as the special ignition key with an aluminum insert (displaying the vehicle number), show the meticulous design of various details.
The exclusivity of materials and technical solutions is reflected in the limited release: only 500 units, all individually numbered to provide the most authentic proof. The vehicle’s VIN, front fork yoke, and ignition key all show the number that matches the VIN (XXX/500).
Superleggera customers will also have the opportunity to purchase an exclusive Superleggera V4 exclusive track jacket with integrated airbag and carbon fiber helmet, both in superleggera colourway. The leather produced by Dainese combines lightness, strength and the security of the Du0002air® system. Likewise, the well-crafted Arai helmet (featuring aerospace-grade carbon fiber) offers unparalleled protection and comfort.
Ducati’s ultimate experience for owners of the Superleggera V4 includes the “WSBK Experience”, where owners can test drive the Panigale V4R, a WSBK World Championship race car, on Mugello’s test track. Even more stunning is that the first 30 owners of Superleggera V4 will have the opportunity to enjoy the “MotoGP Experience”, fulfilling every racing fan’s dream. With the support of Ducati Corse technicians, they will have the opportunity to test drive the Desmosedici GP20 race car that Dovizioso and Petrucci will use for the 2020 season for the first time.
The Superleggera V4 is a dream of extremes, designed and developed for the dreamiest of track performance and guaranteed road-registration legality. With the Superleggera V4, Ducati pushes the limits even further. The development of MotoGP will also provide continuous development of technology, performance and knowledge to the experience of two-wheeled enthusiasts who are obsessed with pursuing the ultimate, making dreams come true!
