The 9th Silk Road Rally will start from Irkutsk along Lake Baikal on July 6, cross Mongolia from north to south and arrive in Dunhuang, China on July 16, completing the 10-day race.

This year’s race has a total of 5008 kilometers, of which 2593 kilometers are special stages. The brand-new route across 3 countries will bring brand-new experiences and challenges to the participating drivers. From the coniferous forests of Eastern Siberia to the endless grasslands of Mongolia to the majestic sand mountains of the Gobi, the 2019 Silk Road Rally is not only the most exciting event this year, but also presents a great journey of exploration for the participants. Special stage: 50.87 km

100% gravel road

Siberian taiga: The first stage is not just a warm-up, the 51-kilometer sand stage shuttles through the narrow Siberian taiga. The track will be very bumpy, with forests, riverbeds and smoky roads in the Siberian mountains as the drivers’ first challenges. After the first stage, everyone will come to the camp next to Lake Baikal to rest and prepare for the next day’s competition.

Total length of road section: 413.63 km

Special stage: 212.02 km

20% rocky roads, 80% gravel roads

Say goodbye to the coniferous forest and enter Buryatia: the second stage will usher in a gravel road section, climbing along the mountain road, and then going down the mountain, which is not a small challenge for the tires. Direction, rhythm and speed are indispensable. Riders will face more varied terrain: mountains, coniferous forests and several bridges over the river. Fast and correct navigation is essential in the Siberian mountains. Find the correct route, attack at full speed, and rush towards the finish line in the highland grassland!

Ulan-Ude – Ulaanbaatar

Total length of road section: 691.35 km

Special stage: 243.00 km

95% gravel road, 5% rocky road

Highs and lows: The mountain road from Buryatia to Mongolia hides many pitfalls. Racing needs to climb up and down the mountain, tracking the footprints of animals. There are dangerous ravines and varied terrain: dozens of roads criss-cross and even parallel roads.

The altitude will rise to 1000 meters when the route reaches halfway, mainly forest hills. A creek bed after 150 kilometers, will the racers pass this section easily?

The line continues to climb, and the drivers will reach an altitude of 1,500 meters. The next special stage will continue to be carried out on the plateau on the parallel road.

Ulaanbaatar — Ulaanbaatar

Total length of road section: 476.96 km

Special stage: 470.19 km

70% gravel, 20% sand, 10% rocky

Galloping on the Mongolian grasslands! This stage is a circular stage around Ulaanbaatar. The starting and ending points are located 2 kilometers away from the Ulaanbaatar camp. There are dry stream beds, low hills and endless Mongolian grasslands. Riders will drive over gravel plateaus lined with picturesque rocks and salt lakes. Pay special attention to wild animals on this stage: they are also lovers of rallying! In the second half of the race, riders can see stone pyramids and large rocks. The ranking in this section is very important, and the navigation of the leader and the speed of the driver are the keys to the victory.

Special stage: 337.00 km

75% gravel road, 25% rocky road

Date with the Stone: Stage 5 is a typical Mongolian track: mountain roads, grasslands, off-road sections and parallel sections. Riders will cross tourist areas, monuments and caves. After a high-temperature stage, the track enters the mountains, and the driver and the leader will compete at high speed on a plateau at an altitude of 1,600 meters.

Special stage: 408.17 km

75% gravel, 25% rocky

Follow the road book closely and navigate correctly: this stage is located in the wide grassland. The main task of each team is to follow the road book and adjust the direction. This stage will definitely not be boring. Follow the various waypoints marked in the road book, and they will bring you back to the finish line successfully.

Special stage: 326.60 km

30% dunes, 10% sand, 25% rocky, 35% gravel

All-terrain experience: Stage 8 is not only the longest, but it also covers so many terrains that it makes people sweat. The successive stages of sand dunes, riverbeds, ditches, canyons and grasslands can be described as a hero in the sand. The closer to the finish line, the higher the speed requirements.

30% dunes, 10% sand, 60% gravel

Long yellow sand: Stage 9 is a high-speed sand stage, lurking in the giant sand dunes of the Gobi. Riders will face bumps, dunes and dry riverbeds. This is an important round of speed competition before the end of the special stage.
