Land Rover partners with the Red Cross to test new Defender in Dubai desert

I don’t know if you know, Land Rover has established a 65-year partnership with the Red Cross, and Land Rover’s vehicles will participate in global disaster preparedness and response plans within the next three years. Recently, foreign media reported that the new Land Rover Defender was sent to the wildlife charity Tusk Trust for field testing in Kenya as part of its global engineering development plan. In spy shots we can see a prototype evaluation of the Defender on dunes and highways in Dubai under the supervision of off-road experts from the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC). According to foreign media, temperatures in the desert exceeded 40 degrees Celsius, while the road section saw the defender climb to an altitude of nearly 2,000 meters.

The long-awaited first look at the Defender is a digital image of the 4×4’s dashboard, which shows key features of the new Defender, including a vertical tailgate at a 90-degree angle to the roof, a wraparound rear sunroof The roof rim, and of course the classic rear-mounted spare wheel. While such a screen rendering won’t be entirely accurate, it still counts as an iconic debut for the Land Rover Defender.

The Land Rover Defender spy photos we released previously revealed that the new Land Rover Defender will be available in three body sizes, two of which can be released from the debut. Among them, the short wheelbase is 90, the middle wheelbase is 110, and the long wheelbase is 130. It will be offered in a three-row, six-seat layout. The 110 version is available in five-, six- and seven-seater versions. The body length is 4.758 meters long and the wheelbase is 3.022 meters long. The 130 version is 5.1 meters long and has seating for eight, although the wheelbase is the same as the 110, meaning there’s plenty of legroom at the rear.

In terms of power, the Defender will provide gasoline and fuel versions, and comes standard with a four-wheel drive system. The diesels will be offered in D200, D240 (four-cylinder) and D300 300bhp (straight-six) form, with 0-62mph times of 10.0 seconds, 8.3 seconds and 7.4 seconds respectively. It is understood that the D300 will be the only diesel engine available in North America and will be available for the 2021 model year.

The Defender P300, P400 and P400e plug-in hybrid models will also be launched and will be sold in the United States. The P400 is understood to offer between 400Nm and 645Nm of torque, and a 0-62mph time of 5.9 seconds. Beyond that, the new model features independent rear suspension for more comfort, and a new monocoque chassis that replaces the old car’s body-on-frame construction. This will make it stronger, lighter and more modular, allowing for a variety of body styles.
