Jaguar is preparing a new SUV: J-Pace. The new model is positioned higher than the current F-Pace. It will become Jaguar’s flagship seven-seat SUV model. Its competitors are locked in Audi Q7, BMW X5, Mercedes GLE and Porsche Cayenne . Jaguar showed off its prototype to World Car of the Year judges in a private event, but there’s no word yet on a launch date for the car.
Jaguar has confirmed that the J-Pace will use the new Land Rover MLA (Modular Longitudinal Architecture) platform. The platform will be unveiled this fall alongside the new Land Rover Defender, and unlike the Defender, the new J-Pace is likely to be more road-focused. J-Pace is based on the MLA modular platform, which can be adapted to internal combustion engine, hybrid and all-electric powertrains in the future as needed.
Luxury medium and large SUVs are one of the current hot market segments. As a luxury brand, Jaguar needs a larger and more luxurious SUV, and it is a top priority at the moment. People are full of expectations for J-Pace.
Under current chief designer Ian Callum, Jaguar has had a solid track record in design, with both the F-Pace (2017) and I-Pace (2019) winning World Car of the Year Award and the annual World Car Design Award, so J-Pace will be more attention.
