Since its birth, the Mercedes-Benz G-Class has been positioned as a high-mobility tactical vehicle. However, with the changing times and market demands, the civilian version of the Mercedes-Benz G-Class developed on the basis of the Mercedes-Benz G-Class military version, Now it has become a luxury for the rich. Under the luxury concept that rare things are expensive, the military version of Mercedes-Benz G has become more and more fragrant.
Recently, the refitting company Puch G. Lorinser Classic acquired several military Mercedes-Benz Gs in stock from the Swiss Army, and on this basis, converted a 230 general-purpose two-door hardtop tactical commuter vehicle into a camper. The new car will be officially sold at Lorinser, priced at 69,900 euros, or about 538,000 yuan.
However, this car feels a little weird no matter how you look at it.
In order to meet the most basic space requirements of a RV, the short-axle military version of the Mercedes-Benz G has further increased the height of the roof to make up for the disadvantage of the short axle with the increase in longitudinal space. The increased body area is painted with a map drawn by the 17th-century map painter Petrus Bertius as an exterior painting, in order to pay tribute to the age of exploration.
Inside the vehicle, the compact short-axis body makes the internal space layout very compact, and the living area is formed by the combination and unfolding of folding tables. The living facilities it can provide are very convenient, providing auxiliary heating, 220V power supply, microwave oven, sink and so on. There are also built in cupboards.
Side windows and open skylights can bring better interior space permeability. Functions such as showers are arranged on the outside. The power of the living cabin is provided by the solar panels on the roof or an external power supply. In a purely wild environment, the built-in battery and engine can also provide enough power for the vehicle.
In terms of power, the new car remains consistent with the military version of the Mercedes-Benz G-Class, equipped with an 85-kilowatt four-cylinder engine and a four-speed automatic transmission, while the Mercedes-Benz G-Class’ four-wheel drive system and rear axle differential The lock also carried over. The matching tires are upgraded to BFGoodrich all-terrain tires and DOTZ 4×4Dakar steel wheels.
Overall, this should be a good off-road touring car, especially with this gimmick from the Swiss Army, which is enough to drive the market crazy. After all, this is not a problem that can be solved with money. But to be honest, I still can’t accept this kind of design with short axis, large and high roof. What do you think?
