Big dipper box

My Big Dipper box broke on the first day, probably because the battery was burned out. It turned out that we had 3 Big Dipper boxes when we formed a group. I, “On the Road” and “Xingyu” carried 1 on each car. But After-sales “Big Dipper” said that Xinjiang is too big and there is a problem with satellite tracking. Let us withdraw from “Shaxingwuyu” and form a group by ourselves, so that the “Shaxingwuyu” riders will not be able to see our location. Fortunately, the “Desert of Qilian Column” can receive our information, and often sends screenshots to everyone in the group to report safety. During the call with “Taihangshui” at night, I told them about “Xingyu” and “On the Road” Ovi, so that friends in the group can see our location in real time. Since the rescue of Xiao Li in October 2017, everyone has bought the Big Dipper box. To be honest, I reject it. The setting is more troublesome and the synchronization is also very complicated. If you use Haichat, you can’t use Aowei. It’s quite annoying. Manufacturers need to continue to develop and update. But at present, there are only Big Dipper boxes in China. On April 14, 2018, when Dongxi crossed the Badain Jaran Desert that day, it was 300 kilometers from Hangtian Town to Youqi Desert. The background live broadcast of the Big Dipper Box was good. The mistake this time was to form a group alone, which was self-defeating.

Satellite phones are brought in every car, which is convenient for contacting the outside world, but the team members cannot contact each other by themselves. Fortunately, this crossing is not divided into groups, and the battle line is less than 3 kilometers long.

Mr. Shi’s Supplies

After breakfast on the 9th, we set off at 9:45 and planned to arrive at the supply point at 11:30. This section of the road is completely in a high-sand area, driving is difficult, and every big slope has poor visibility. We were frightened, and the co-driver David stared wide-eyed and held his breath to help me see the road. I shouted “on the road” , Go back and immediately raise my seat. Another big slope, almost in danger, I was in a hurry, and almost quarreled with the co-driver David. I got out of the car and analyzed it carefully, and found the problem. When I came, the repair shop considered that it was difficult to pass through the tower, so I adjusted the nitrogen shock absorber to the highest level. In addition, I had more than 200 kilograms of tents and other materials in the trunk. The front of the car was higher than others. More than ten centimeters higher. The problem was found, and I calmed down. At 12:00, there was still less than 10 kilometers to reach the supply point. I called Mr. Shi from Xinjiang on the intercom, but there was no reply. About half an hour later, I heard their call on the intercom: “I saw you! I saw you! We are on the opposite mountain.” I said, “Okay! Great!” I’m so excited! Who can understand my mood? It’s not just about the supply. Arriving at the supply point means that we have completed 70% of the mission. Can you not be excited!

Qiemo County is 30 kilometers to the east, and the fourth desert road is being built. Due to time constraints, a friend sent supplies and met at our predetermined coordinate point. It is 90 kilometers from Qiemo County to here, the road surface is good, 1 “Mitsubishi Pajero 97”, 1 Huanghai 4WD pickup truck, 3 large barrels of oil, Luxun 47 accessories, water, grapes, bananas, Korla Pears, oranges, apples and other fruits. After merging, the 3 people rushed to repair the car, “Lu Xun” replaced the brake pads, my guard was tightened again, and the other personnel refueled and ate. Two hours later, we reluctantly said goodbye to Mr. Shi with a grateful heart. The road was still far away and the task was arduous, so we had to set off.

Pass through successfully

Today’s desert is completely different from the previous few days. The typical Badain Jaran terrain, every time a mountain passes, there will be a section of flat land with a small amount of vegetation. Counting on Aowei, there are more than 30 mountains. The mountains in front are generally larger, with a length of 5-6 kilometers, and the mountains in the back are smaller, with a length of 1-2 kilometers. Before departure, I mobilized everyone: “The last mile, the more cautious you must be, and you can’t be careless, especially after a few days of rescue, the two winches have already collapsed, and everyone has no strength. You must drive carefully. Learn from ‘Sunshine’ and be serious. Facing every slope, study every ‘pot’ carefully, and don’t make ‘pot’ blindly if you are not sure.”

Early in the morning, we were given a “offensive”. The lead car fell into a cliff, close to 80 degrees, and both rescue vehicles were trapped. “Jin Shao” went down to rescue and acted as a fulcrum, and finally rescued the car of “Xingyu”. After repeated tossing, he finally got out of the air. At noon, the head car found a discarded tire, about one person tall, discarded by oil field vehicles. We felt like we had discovered a new continent. Everyone stopped to take a group photo and compared each other to see who was stronger. Naturally, it was “Sunshine” and “Jin Shao”. “The power is infinite. From now on, it takes 20 minutes to cross a mountain. Ten minutes of mountain climbing, less than ten minutes of flat ground, although bumpy, everyone can have time to breathe. I am in a good mood, and I expect to be able to go to the No. 4 well of the oilfield before 6 o’clock. Stopping for a break, I interviewed several players, and everyone spoke from the bottom of their hearts.

After 6 o’clock, we found the tall iron tower head on the top of the desert, and finally reached the No. 4 well, marking the completion of our crossing task!

We saw seven or eight oil workers in red clothes outside the fence, about 100 meters away from their camp. They saw us and came to look for us. We are very excited and very kind. I drove the car over, and I greeted them. Before I could say a second sentence, their chattering voices overwhelmed everything else. “You have worked hard! You are amazing! You have come out of the desert! We haven’t seen a single outsider for two months!” The enthusiasm of the oilfield workers swept away our exhaustion. They opened the fence and let us go to their gate to inflate. There were a lot of onlookers, and we chatted while inflating. About 1 hour later, the oil workers showed us the way, and more than 1 hour later, we arrived at the tower. As soon as “On the Road” got a signal, “Taihang Shui” called, full of greetings and blessings, and it sounded very cordial and simple.

There is a network, and it is actually a 4G network. I hurriedly reported to all my friends that they are safe. The first time I posted on the circle of friends: I have successfully crossed out of the Taklamakan Desert, thank you for your concern! Thank you, thank you all! We have 5 cars and 8 people crossing the N39 in the eastern section of Taklamakan in 4 and a half days, 312 kilometers (the riverside trail is not included), the people and cars are safe and healthy!
Before contacting us, the captain of “Camel Xiangzi” in Korla, Xinjiang entrusted “Fu Chen” to come to us, expressing concern and condolences, and then “Shuang Wai Wai” also came to greet us. Because we were too tired, we could only eat a few bites hastily, and it was almost over.
In four and a half days, I crossed the straight line of 312 kilometers at the eastern end of N39. It was really not easy for me, a person suffering from illness, and it was even more of a challenge for everyone to travel through the Taklamakan Desert with a sick group.
