Dali
Over the mountains, we finally arrived in Dali, which is also the destination of our trip. Revisiting the old place is very cordial.
In Dali, the Bai people have a riddle poem that has been passed down from generation to generation. The friend is gone (month). The answer to this poem riddle is the most famous four scenes of wind, flowers, snow and moon in Dali: “Wind in Xiaguan”, “Flowers in Shangguan”, “Snow in Cangshan Mountain” and “Moon in Erhai Lake”.
Here we will slow down, feel the beauty of Dali with our hearts, and enjoy the feeling of paradise.
When you arrive in Dali, what you can see here is the blue tiles and white walls, and the patchwork of traditional Bai people’s houses, which are simple and elegant against the blue sky, white clouds, green mountains and green trees.
When we came to Dali this time, we planned to stay longer, so on the day we arrived, we found an inn between Cangshan Mountain and Erhai Lake as a foothold, temporarily rented it for a month, and then prepared to slowly find a suitable residence for a long-term stay.
The ancient city of Dali
is located in the east of Erhai Lake, and the ancient city of Dali in the west of Cangshan Mountain is a famous historical and cultural city. There are four city gates in the east, west, south and north, and there are towers on each gate. There is no admission fee for Dali Ancient City. There is a main street running from north to south in the city, and nine streets and eighteen lanes extend from the main street to the surrounding area.
This is the Wenwen Building located outside the south gate of Dali Ancient City. It is known as the first gate of the ancient city and is a landmark building in Dali Ancient City. The willow trees on both sides of the road are shady and the flowers are fragrant.
This is the “No. 1 Building in the World” in ancient Nanzhao – Wuhua Building. Due to historical reasons and geological disasters, Wuhua Building has fallen down many times and has been rebuilt many times, but the scale and layout are getting smaller and smaller. , has been far inferior to the Nanzhao period.
Climb up the tower of the ancient city and look around at 360 degrees. You can have a panoramic view of all the beautiful scenery inside and outside the city. Overlooking Cangshan Mountain, you can see the white snow on the top of the mountain, and the white clouds cast their own shadows, erratic with the breeze, and the verdant Cangshan Mountain is either thickly or lightly dressed.
Climb a height and look far away, looking inside and outside the ancient city.

Foreigner’s Street was originally named “Huguo Road”, which was named after the Yunnan people opposed Yuan Shikai’s proclaiming emperor in the early Republic of China and raised troops to protect the country. It starts from the Yunnan-Tibet Highway in the west, and is a place where foreign friends gather and yearn for.
On both sides of the streets and alleys are densely packed shops, where you can find many local and Yunnan native products.
The rose cake made from fresh roses is a good souvenir.
There is a street here that specializes in all kinds of solid wood furniture, from logs, design, carving, and forming in one go, with exquisite craftsmanship.
Walking into the courtyard here, each small building is a masterpiece of architecture. The elaborate decoration inside and outside the house represents the owner’s own aesthetics and attainments. The Bai people pay great attention to the elegance and cleanliness of the residential environment. Most people’s courtyards are usually built with flower beds, and the flowers are fragrant and blooming all year round. Residents here, no matter how big or small, rich or poor, have the habit of growing flowers and grass in the courtyard. Therefore, there is a saying that “every family has flowing water, and every household grows flowers”.
