At the Los Angeles International Auto Show at the end of last year, Honda officially released a new generation of Passport. Now that it has inherited the Passport name, the new generation of Honda Passport has naturally become the most hardcore product in Honda’s product lineup. Of course, compared to its previous generation model, the Passport based on Isuzu Mu, the new generation of Honda Passport has weakened a lot of off-road performance.
The new generation of Honda Passport attracts the most market attention is its i-VTM4 full-time four-wheel drive system. To put it simply, the i-VTM4 four-wheel drive system carried by the new generation of Honda Passport is the same as Acura’s SH-AWD system. It is a high-end four-wheel drive system that can realize torque vector distribution. It can transmit up to 70% torque to the rear axle, and control the torque distribution of the left and right wheels of the rear axle through the planetary gear mechanism and multi-plate clutch. In extreme cases, all the torque transmitted to the rear axle can be distributed to a single wheel. In this way, the off-road passing performance of the Honda Passport is greatly guaranteed.
At the recent Western Adventure Show held in the United States, Honda also created a clear off-road adventure style on the new Passport, which has never appeared in the previous Honda family.
From the appearance point of view, the ground clearance of the Passport off-road model launched by Honda has improved the tough style of the Honda Passport Adventure Edition and refined the image of a traditional off-road vehicle. From the point of view of the choice of modification plan, the Honda Passport has a 1.5-inch lift for the front axle, and a 0.75-inch lift for the rear axle. This is almost the limit of a load-bearing body platform without cutting the body. And this lifting scheme with low front and high rear also balances the front and rear visual center of gravity of Honda Passport, making the new car more stable.
In terms of program selection, with the improvement of ground clearance, the Honda Passport Adventure Edition also uses large-size all-terrain tires. At the same time, a full set of climbing kits are used for protection in the lower part. In order to cope with the larger size spare tire, the adventure version of the Tian Passport also added an external spare tire, the visual effect is quite good.
The top roof camping kit is the key to this adventure element, and the functionality of the Honda Passport Adventure Edition has also been expanded by adding a roof tent. As for other aspects, the adventure version of Tian Passport has not been further optimized.
