Six years ago, Mercedes-Benz GLA, the first SUV under the Mercedes-Benz MFA precursor platform, was officially unveiled. With its positioning as a crossover vehicle, Mercedes-Benz GLA has sold more than 1 million vehicles in the global market within six years.
Right now, with the release of the second-generation MFA platform, Mercedes-Benz’s front-wheel drive series will also usher in a new round of replacement. Following the debut of the Mercedes-Benz GLB, Mercedes-Benz officially released a new generation of Mercedes-Benz GLA a few days ago.
From the appearance point of view, the new generation of Mercedes-Benz GLA has obvious differences in the crossover SUV positioning compared with the previous generation. From the point of view of the design concept, the designers of Mercedes-Benz obviously added more MPV design concepts to this new generation of GLA, and used the MPV-like SUV image to define its cross-border definition.
In terms of size, the new generation of Mercedes-Benz GLA is 15 mm shorter than the old model in terms of length, which is 4409 mm. The wheelbase has increased by 28mm to 2728mm. Compared with the old model, the body height has increased by 104 mm to 1610 mm.
The revised styling proportions have significantly improved the interior space of the new-generation Mercedes-Benz GLA, especially the space for the rear seats has increased significantly. At the same time, the rear seats also provide more combinations to improve the space diversity of the trunk.
In terms of power, the new-generation Mercedes-Benz GLA sold in the North American market is equipped with a 2.0T turbocharged engine with a maximum output of 221 horsepower and a maximum torque of 350 Nm, which is matched with an eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox. Front-wheel drive is standard, and 4Matic all-wheel drive is optional.
The single model sold in this European market uses a 1.3T three-cylinder turbocharged engine as the entry-level configuration, matched with a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox, with a maximum output of 161 horsepower and a maximum torque of 250 Nm.
In terms of the market, the new generation of Mercedes-Benz GLA is expected to be officially delivered to users in the middle of next year, and the domestic version of the model is also expected to be officially unveiled at the Beijing International Auto Show in April next year.
