Porsche has released the new flagship model of the 911 series. The new 911 Turbo S is more powerful, more dynamic and more comfortable than ever. The new car is available in coupe and convertible versions, both equipped with a new 3.8-liter boxer (Boxer) engine, and equipped with two turbochargers with variable turbo geometry (VTG), the output power reaches 478 kW (650 PS ), an increase of 51 kW (70 PS) over the previous model. The maximum torque of the engine is 800 Nm (increased by 50 Nm), and it is matched with an 8-speed Porsche dual-clutch gearbox (PDK) specially designed for Turbo models. The acceleration time from zero to 100 km/h is reduced to 2.7 seconds (0.2 seconds shortened), The top speed remains at 330 km/h. The new Porsche 911 Turbo S is now available for pre-sale in the Chinese market. The manufacturer’s suggested retail price of the 911 Turbo S is 2,336,000 yuan, and the 911 Turbo S Cabriolet is 2,473,000 yuan.
The new 911 Turbo S is significantly wider in size to complement its enhanced driving dynamics: The overall body width at the front is 1,840 mm (45 mm wider) and at the rear 1,900 mm (20 mm wider). The agility and sportiness of the 911 Turbo S models are enhanced by measures such as a revised track, improved aerodynamics and new tires of different sizes. The front axle track has been widened by 42 mm and the rear axle track has been widened by 10 mm. Adaptive aerodynamics now also incorporate controllable front cooling air deflectors, while a larger rear wing further improves downforce. For the first time in the 911 Turbo S, tires of different sizes are used on the front and rear axles. The front axle is fitted with unique 20-inch 255/35 tires and the rear axle is fitted with 21-inch 315/30 tires. New optional equipment further enhances the sporty character of the four-wheel drive 911. For example, the Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) sports chassis lowers the ground clearance by a further 10 mm, and the sports exhaust system with adjustable valves produces an even more distinctive exhaust note.
The new engine in the new 911 Turbo S is based on the engine of the current 911 Carrera model and features a redesigned charge-air cooling system; the new, enlarged Variable Turbo Geometry (VTG) supercharger Adjustable wastegate valves and piezoelectric fuel injectors significantly improve vehicle responsiveness, power output, torque characteristics, emissions and acceleration.
The new six-cylinder engine features a new intake system. Both the air intake path and the charge air cooling path have been changed compared to the past, with part of the air intake now entering through the Turbo-specific rear side air intakes. The air cleaners are now housed in the new rear fenders and funnel two more airflows through the rear lid grille. This means that the new 911 Turbo S has a total of four air intakes with a larger cross-sectional area and less resistance, which contribute to further improving engine efficiency. Two enlarged turbochargers with Variable Turbine Geometry (VTG) symmetrically replace the previously identical components, with the left and right turbines now spinning in opposite directions. The diameter of the exhaust gas turbine has increased by 5 mm to 55 mm, and the diameter of the compressor has increased by 3 mm to 61 mm. The wastegate valve is controlled by a stepper motor.
The perfect combination of these designs makes the new 911 Turbo S an excellent balance of driving pleasure, dynamic performance and sporty performance, whether in daily driving or on the track. The leap in performance is particularly noticeable when the new generation 911 Turbo S accelerates from 0 to 200 km/h: this acceleration is completed in just 8.9 seconds, a full second faster than the predecessor model. Thanks to the enhanced Porsche Traction Management (PTM) all-wheel drive system, up to 500 Nm of torque can now be transmitted to the front wheels. The new-generation PASM chassis fitted as standard is also sportier: the dampers are more responsive and more precisely controlled, resulting in significantly improved roll stability, road holding, steering behavior and cornering speed.
The new front face with widened air intakes presents the unique appearance style of Turbo models, equipped with dual headlight modules and standard LED matrix headlights. The redesigned front aerodynamic spoiler and larger rear wing increase downforce by 15%, while the muscular rear fender and integrated air intake design make the body of the new 911 Turbo S smoother. The new rear design also includes the Turbo-specific high-gloss black square exhaust tailpipes.
The interior of the new 911 Turbo S has a high-quality sporty feel. Standard equipment includes full leather upholstery, carbon fiber trim with silver accents. The new car can also be optionally equipped with a two-tone interior newly designed by Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur, an exclusive customization department of Porsche, which achieves excellent coordination in terms of color, material and enhanced personalization. 18 The stitching of the sports seats pays homage to the first-generation 911 Turbo (type 930). The high-quality graphic display elements and emblems on the instrument cluster are also unique to Turbo models. Porsche Communication Management (PCM) now features a 10.9-inch center display with a new layout, enabling quick operation without distracting the driver. Other features include: GT sports steering wheel, Sport Chrono package, newly integrated Porsche Track Precision app and BOSE® surround sound audio system.
