When more and more Mercedes-Benz G-classes appear at the door of nightclubs, and the Land Rover Defender has been transformed into a shy Land Rover “little nurse”, in the circle of off-road vehicles, it can really take you anywhere in the world , and the car that brings you back safely seems to be only the Toyota LC70 series.
From its birth in 1984 to the present, with its excellent engineering design and strong off-road passability, the Toyota LC70 series has become the last model that adheres to the hard-working tradition of off-road vehicles.
Of course, such product positioning also makes the Toyota LC70 series a rigid requirement for use in harsh environments. With the progress of the times, it follows the tradition in constant updates.
A few days ago, Toyota South Africa officially launched a special edition LC79, named after the Namib Desert, one of the oldest and largest deserts in the world.
As a special edition model, the new Toyota LC79 Namib Desert Special Edition provides users with original high-performance off-road kits to meet users’ needs for long-distance off-road crossings.
From the appearance point of view, the Toyota LC79 Namib Desert Special Edition retains the tough appearance of the LC79 as a whole. At the detail level, the air intake grille is upgraded to a mesh structure, and the car logo also adopts the Toyota word logo before the 1990s.
The appearance of the Toyota wordmark on the LC79 makes people see the appearance of the classic Toyota in the 1980s. The logo of the Namib Desert Special Edition also appears on the side of the body to highlight its identity as a customized model.
Of course, for this Toyota LC79 Namib Desert Special Edition, the appearance kit is obviously more recognizable than the logo.
Compared with the normal version of LC79, the Toyota LC79 Namib Desert Special Edition is equipped with a competitive steel front bumper as standard, and is equipped with headlight anti-collision corners, and an LED auxiliary light source is also added above the bumper. A wading hose with a sand collection cup is added to the right fender, which will greatly improve its ability to cross long distances in the desert.
In terms of chassis, the Toyota LC79 Namib Desert Special Edition has been upgraded with a new off-road suspension kit, and the whole kit is provided by a local off-road modification brand in South Africa.
The matching tires are upgraded to larger 265/75 R16 Cooper all-terrain tires. So on the whole, the Toyota LC79 Namib Desert Special Edition has a greater undercarriage tension.
Inside the vehicle, the Toyota LC79 Namib Desert Special Edition has added an air-conditioning cooling duct in the glove box to realize the function of a car refrigerator. In addition, considering the actual usage of the user, the seat also uses a gray canvas seat cover on the top, and an anti-scratch coating inside the cargo box. A dedicated off-road console is added to the roof, which can control LED auxiliary light sources, etc.
In terms of power, the Toyota LC79 Namib Desert Special Edition is still powered by a 1VD-FTV 4.5L turbocharged diesel engine with a maximum output of 151 kilowatts, a maximum torque of 430 Nm, and a fuel consumption of 11.3L per 100 kilometers.
In terms of configuration, it continues the high-end specifications, including navigation, Bluetooth, electric windows and so on. The exterior color scheme provides two colors of ivory white and classic sand beige.
