Volkswagen’s only hard-core off-road product, the new generation of Volkswagen Amarok design sketches exposed

Over the years, relying on its success in the Chinese market, Volkswagen has successfully ascended to the throne of the world’s car sales champion. But to be honest, although it ranks first, there is still a big gap between Volkswagen and Toyota in terms of the completeness of the product line.

One of the most typical examples is that Volkswagen still lacks hard-core off-road models so far. The only thing that can be related to off-road is the Volkswagen Amarok, the first pickup truck launched by Volkswagen a few years ago. Recently, Volkswagen also officially released the design sketches of the new generation of Volkswagen Amarok.

Judging from the released renderings, the new Volkswagen Amarok is still in the official concept creation stage, including the shape and details of the vehicle, which use a lot of futuristic and conceptual design. In terms of the detailed shape of the front face, the new car also continues the overall design of the current Volkswagen family, and on this basis, it has adjusted the off-road atmosphere. According to Volkswagen’s plan, the new Volkswagen Amarok will be officially launched in 2022.

It should be noted that in 2019, Volkswagen Commercial has reached a cooperation agreement with Ford. According to the provisions of the agreement, the two parties will carry out global cooperation in the field of commercial vehicles and pickup trucks. This also means that after the new generation of Volkswagen Amarok is launched, there is a high probability that it will share the platform and most of the technology with the Ford Ranger. The latter also officially returned to the North American market last year.

Once the new generation of Volkswagen Amarok realizes technology sharing with Ford Ranger, it means that Volkswagen Amarok has been lacking in low-speed four-wheel drive and lack of off-road performance. The possibility of Volkswagen launching a hardcore SUV is not even ruled out. If so, then this one is kind of interesting.
