[E Group Overseas Report] In the 1990s, stimulated by the Japanese bubble economy, JDM style refitting reached its peak. To put it simply, the JDM style modification is a Japanese-style modification according to the aesthetic needs of Japanese traditional culture. JDM focuses on concise and oriental aesthetic shapes and details. This is completely different from the westernized geometry carving modification. Therefore, the modification of JDM has also become an important branch.
JDM is most well-known for the modification of performance cars. However, as a large modification category, JDM is naturally not limited to this. In terms of the style design of the RV, the modification of JDM can also give different effects. For example, this 1993 Hilux Galaxy RV is a typical representative.
The Hilux Galaxy RV was a product launched by Toyota in the Japanese market in the early 20th century, limited to 80 vehicles. Based on the LN106 series of Hilux pickups, the living equipment in the rear cabin is added. In terms of the shape of the vehicle, this Hilux Galaxy RV is not the same as the European or Australian goose-roof RV in the traditional impression. First of all, the beige color scheme has a Japanese style. The structural design of the living cabin is similar to the Japanese-style architecture in the traditional impression, without too much pursuit of exaggerated surface tension, but each large surface is embellished with elegant characteristic ridges.
It is worth affirming that the rear wheels of the Hilux Galaxy camper adopt a double-wheel design, which on the one hand ensures the carrying capacity of the vehicle after adding an additional living compartment. On the other hand, the double-wheel design makes the rear wheels flush with the cabin, which makes the Hilux Galaxy RV look more energetic from the perspective of the vehicle shape, so that the single-wheel design does not appear in the lower compartment. The rear compartment is too heavy caused by the protrusion and the outside of the wheel. In addition, the spare tire has also been moved forward to the front of the car to balance the visual center of gravity in the front and rear directions of the vehicle. It is in place for the creation of lightness and overall feeling.
In terms of the layout of the living cabin, although it was designed in the 1990s, the interior layout of the Hilux Galaxy RV still has a high utilization rate of space. The design of the goose top first ensures the upper sleeping space. In the lower part, including refrigerator, kitchen utensils, sink are all available. The large-area side windows on both sides create a sense of transparency in the cabin, and the rear is also equipped with hot shower facilities, a fully functional TV and an Onan Microlite 2800 generator as standard.
In terms of power, the Hilux Galaxy RV is still equipped with a combination of 3.0L diesel power and a five-speed manual transmission, and the driving form is a part-time four-wheel drive. That’s enough to warrant it going anywhere. Generally speaking, it is like an old Japanese tavern, exquisite and tasteful.
